Ishaqzaade: Cliché!

Ishaqzaade (2012) is  Habib Faisal and  Yash Raj Films‘ retelling of the good old Romeo -Juliet. Set in the fictitious lawless world of Almora, it depicts a pair of spunky and feisty ‘rebel lovers’ –  Parma and Zoya (Arjun Kapoor, and Parineeti Chopra)- who are eventually sacrificed in the slaughter house clichés!

Two wayward hearts oozing with defiance and angst ready to be caught in the emotional  trapeze of love was an alluring idea.

An example of potentialities succumbing to the injustice of patriarchy & other cliches!

The  fights of rights that Zoya pouts not only mesmerizes but also makes her  appear as a symbol of heroism and rebel with a cause. Unfortunately, the magic spell breaks and our iron lady succumbs to Stockholm Syndrome !

Films flaunting change and possibility suddenly  adopting a regressive and misogynist attitude are difficult to comprehend.  Habib Faisal has  denied that his 70mm baby is regressive and he has merely presented the reality [read here].  Mr. Director everything is not ‘real’ in a  realistic film and hence misogynist attitude doesn’t have to be reinforced with panache every now and then. We already have it way too much in our daily lives. Would I be asking for too much, if I desired to see a powerful female Ishaqzaade next time ?

Do you concur with my thoughts ?

Please feel free to lash out or appreciate.
